Program Outline

Preparatory Component

Courses will be offered in the summer term for students whose undergraduate background does not include the preparatory equivalents.

  • Foundations of Microeconomics (2)
  • Foundations of Macroeconomics (1)
  • Fundamentals of Financial Accounting and Financial Management (3)
  • Business Statistics (2)
  • Quantitative Analysis in Business (1)

In order to waive preparatory courses, students must have earned a grade of "B" or better in an equivalent undergraduate course. Additionally, the equivalent to the Business Statistics and Quantitative Analysis courses must have been taken within the past five years.

Functional Component

  • Organizational Leadership & Behavior I (3)
  • Services Operations (3)
  • Managerial Accounting (3)
  • Sports Economics (3)
  • Financial Management (3)
  • Internet & Technology in Sports (3)
  • Marketing Management (3)
  • Marketing of Sports (3)
  • Marketing through Sports (3)
  • Sports Strategy (3) - capstone course

Concentration & Elective Component

Choose two of the following:

  • Management of Motorsports (1.5)
  • Management of Professional Team Sports (1.5)
  • Management of Individual Sports, Facilities & Events (1.5)
  • Negotiations: Agents, Athletes and Sponsors (1.5)

And choose six credit hours from the following:

  • Professional Selling in Sport (1.5)
  • Sports Promotions (1.5)
  • Global Sports (1.5)
  • Contemporary Issues in Sports (1.5)
  • Entrepreneurship (3)
  • Human Resources Management (3)
  • Marketing Research (3)

Internship

Each student will participate in a full-time internship with a sports-related company or organization during the second year of the program. Students receive six credit hours for successful completion of the internship.
