Become an MVP with an MBA.
Admission to the Sports MBA is competitive and selective. For priority consideration, apply by January 15. Candidates who apply by March 1 will receive consideration on a space-available basis.
UNC Charlotte seeks a diverse group of students for the Sports MBA program. Applications are evaluated on a number of factors, including past academic performance, GMAT scores, work experience and references. Candidates will also be required to participate in an interview, which will be scheduled during one of two Admissions Weekends.
Admission Requirements
- Possession of a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- A satisfactory grade point on all of the applicant's previous work beyond high school
- At least three references from persons familiar with the applicant's personal and professional qualifications
- A resume or a description of work experience
- A satisfactory score on the GMAT test comprising of acceptable levels on both the verbal and quantitative scores
- Three essays, addressing the following topics
- Describe your goals, and how an MBA in Sports Marketing and Management will help you achieve them
- Describe your background and work experience in sports
- Explain your preference for an emphasis in professional team sports, motorsports, or individual sports/event management.
Although work experience is not a requirement for admission to the program, preference will be given to candidates with prior work experience (paid or unpaid) in sports-related positions.
For International Applicants
In addition to all of the requirements listed above, students must submit:
- An official score from one of three English proficiency tests. For the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), the minimum score is 557 for the paper-based test or 220 for the computer-based test. For the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), the minimum overall band score is 6.5. For the MELAB (Michigan English Language Battery), the minimum score is 78.
- A statement of the applicant's financial resources to support his/her stay in the United States.

Following initial screening, invitations will be extended to top candidates to participate in the program's Admission Weekend. Prospective students will have the opportunity to tour Charlotte and meet program faculty, MBA staff and members of the Sports Advisory Council. Interviews will also be held at this time.
